Nothing serious...

A magyar nyelvű olvasóktól elnézést, hogy mostanság csak angolul írok, de egyszerűen nincs elég időm két nyelven hosszabb postot összedobni... az angol nyelvű olvasóktól pedig elnézést a pocsék nyelvtanért... rég volt már az a nyelvvizsga, ugye :)

I made no progress on any of my models lately. This weekend I've been improving my figure painting skills. My first problem was/is the skin color - as a dummy solution I bought Panzer Aces skin tone set and tried. And they worked quite well however my wife mentioned that the figure looks a bit too "reddish" in reality (a bit too yellowish on the picture, btw). This was also the first time I've tried Archer's dry transfers for the uniform patches. I loved it - I plan to buy a set for the Gaz-AAA crew as well - the current one is good for only the panzer troops...
The other problem was that the flat black uniform was shiny. After two light spraying of flat coat - still shiny...

Facepainting

Elővettem a szekrény mélyéről az művészolajfestékes tubusokat, és megpróbálkoztam szabad fél órámat figurafestésre fordítani. Az alkalom szülte a palettát...
Had half an hour today (yeah) and started to paint with my old oils from the past. The starting palette contains some titanium white, goldochre, yellow ochre, burnt siena, burnt umber, cadmium mid-red and cadmium light-yellow.
A spanyol polgárháborús Pz I-eshez vásárolt Warriors figurákkal kezdtem a tanulási folyamatot. Először vékony alapszín réteg, majd ezt visszaszedtem száraz, puha ecsettel, hogy ne legyen túl vastag a végső festékréteg az árnyékolás-fényezés után. Első észrevétel: a szürke alapozó nagyon jó a járműveken, a figurán viszont nem árt testszínű akrillal alapozni inkább, mert így az elvékonyított alapfesték réteg alól rendesen átütött a szürke. Nem árt megjegyezni a következő hat figurához...
I had two figures for my Pz I (Spanish Civil War era) from Warriors and I started to paint them with the base skin color. I used dry soft brushes to "thin back" the first layer to avoid too thick oil paint at the end of the painting process. My first conclusion: the grey Tamiya primer is very good but not for figures as the thin base coat "greyed down". I'll use flesh-tone acrylics next time as a primer (as is said in the "Big Book of Figure Painters").

És végül a folyamat, bár még csillog a figura a friss olajfestéktől, de egészen szimpatikus lett a végeredmény (nem, nem Szaddám az, még ha hasonlít is egy kicsit), az első olyan figurám, amit olajjal festettem, és nem fogok lemosni (egyelőre legalábbis) lefolyótisztítóban. Amit feleségem csak "úsznak a jürgenek" megjegyzéssel szokott titulálni.
And finally the painting process with adding little shadow here, little light there and blending the colors with a soft brust. First figure of my life that will avoid to be washed down several times. And he is definitely not Saddam even if he looks like...

Figure out...

More precisely: figures are taken out of their box... I had a very little free time this afternoon and arranged the next few figures to be ready for painting. Glued, sanded and washed with soapy water. Now I hope I'll have free time to start painting. But now I must go. The baby is crying again... the night shift begins :)

Surfing...

I spent the evening with hunting for reference photos on the web. Mostly the Bundesarchiv and the WW2 in Color sites, hundreds of photos of German soldiers. Some of them wearing greatcoat of various types. The result is a handful of pictures to be used when I scuplt this figure again. The folds on the front of my greatcoat-like something are completely different from the folds on the original ones. That is typical of me - jump in the middle, start sculpting on the "it will turn out somehow" basis and later slowing down, starting to think it over, collecting reference, etc. :)

Sculpting - the very beginning

Életem első figurája töltötte ki a mai este nagy részét - nagyon pepecs meló, de gyermeki örömmel, arcomon bárgyú mosollyal próbálkozom tovább, kezdem megszokni a Milliputot, és megtanulni a kezelését (már nem ragad oda a kezemhez/szerszámokhoz, és sikerült sima felületet varázsolni). Amit sürgősen meg kell tanulnom, az a ruhafélék gyűrődésének ábrázolása, mert bár tök egyszerűnek tűnik, amikor ki kell őket alakítani, akkor tanácstalanul hümmögtem egy sort, és a képeken látható végeredményre jutottam. Ja, hogy mi ez? A nagykabát "középső" része, a testet fedő rész. A kabát ujjai lesznek a következő feladat, aztán az alja, amit "rápróbálás" címszóval az első képen látható darab Milliputtal próbáltam magam előtt vizualizálni. Imádok gyurmázni, oviban is ez volt a kedvencem. Említettem már?

The first figure sculpting of my life, and it is love for the first sight - I started to feel how Milliput works and it is not so difficult (sticky...) as it appeared originally. It's a time consuming process but I decided to learn how to sculpt my figures. I really enjoy it - at the moment more than building vehicles. :) It brings out memories of my childhood playing with clay... Now I spent 1.5 hours to create the middle section of the greatcoat - and to realize that it's extremely urgent to learn the nature of folds on clothing as I can not depict is at the moment. Or maybe I can but at a very basic level. Childhood, you know...

A Sofőr - The Driver

Mégis nekikezdtem megépíteni a magam kis sofőr figuráját, ha már van itthon Milliput (yellow-grey), és már kezd a szürke rúdon sárgás külső izé keletkezni (fórumokon utánanézve ez csak a levegő miatt van, nem kell tőle félni, de érdemes levágni), legalább elfogy. Szaloncukortartó drótból megformáztam a pózt (a méretek/arányok tekintetében a motoros figurát vettem alapul), majd egy szerintem vékony, ám utólag kiderült, hogy vastag Milliput réteget tettem rá "alapnak". Aztán ebből jócskán lefaragtam, módosítottam a "túl vállasra" sikerült jobb kar állását, és életemben először figurát formáztam! A két láb egész jól sikerült, bár még most tanulgatom, hogyan is kell gyűrődéseket készíteni (a kisebbek nem tetszenek), hogyan kell használni a célszerszámokat, és egyáltalán, ez a sokak által lefikázott Milliput hogyan működik, mikor, mennyire formázható, ésatöbbi, ésatöbbi. Biztos, hogy nem ez az első és egyben utolsó próbálkozás a sofőr végleges változatáig, de valami gyermekkori örömforrást szabadít fel bennem ez a "gyurmázás". Miért is nem próbáltam eddig?

Finally I started to sculpt the driver - exciting and challenging job as I've never sculpted anything before. I have to practice a lot, as I don't know the sculpting tools, don't know the Milliput's "behaviour", etc. But I like it a lot, my inner child enjoys playing this figure-buildong thing! First I made the base from wire, adjusting to its planned position (leaning to the left, talking to the Feldgendarme).

First layer of Milliput. I thought it to be thin but it turned out to be too thick - so I cut a lot from that before continuing the "work". I used old Tamiya boots...


First folds of my life :) I'm quite pleased with them as they help me to get used to this putty-thing. The left leg has some unnatural shaped knee but I don't mind because it is sure: this won't be the last try before I'll be ready with my driver.
