Chaffee progress

A futómű és a lánctalp kész, és egészen jól haladok a felépítménnyel is, kis szerencsével egy hónapon belül az építés része készen lehet, márciusra festés-koszolás is, de persze ne rohanjunk ennyire előre. A Bronco színvonalat hamar meg lehet(ne) szokni: hihetetlenül precíz illeszkedés, nagyon szép apró(lékos) részletek (bár azt nem értem, az öntvény számozást miért tudták sok helyen megoldani a műanyag fröccsöntésekor, és például miért kellene nekem mikronnyi méretű réz PE számokat ragasztanom a jármű elején?). A lánctalp külön nagy kedvencem: összesen ha 3-4 órát dolgoztam vele, akkor talán túl sokat is mondok, és "workable".

The running gear and track are ready. The hull is progressing nicely - I hope to finish the build in a month and another month is needed for the painting-weathering. But do not be too ambitious. Bronco did a fantastic job regarding the details and the fit of the kit. However I don't see the logic in some cases, for example why they molded casting numbers on some parts and why the expect me to glue supertiny PE casting numbers to the lower front part? My personal favourite is the track: really easy to cut and clean and it is workable without drilling and/or messing with pins, wires, etc. I love it. 






Aminek kapcsán bizonytalan vagyok: a Black Dog felszerelését gondoltam hátra, de feltűnően túl nagy kupac lett belőle, lásd képek. Így aztán hiába gyönyörűen kidolgozott gyanta készlet, mégsem fogom feltenni a járműre, már csak azért sem, mert az a két-három kép, amit az eredeti, olasz hadjáratban szereplő Chaffee-kről találtam, egyike sem mutat ennyire "túlmálházott" járgányt... a kevesebb néha több, azt hiszem, jelen esetben is igaz.

One thing I am not sure about: the Black Dog stowage set. Beautiful molding, superb details but attaching that to the tank looks odd. It is way too much for me. I don't question that there were Chaffees in WWII with that huge heap of stowage but the 2-3 reference photos from the Italian campaign what I could dig up from the web show nothing comparable... so less is more will be true in this case, as well. 

2019 Plan

Erre az évre nem tűztem ki túl ambíciózus terveket, elvégre a makettezés (egyelőre) csak hobbi, és nem megélhetési forrás (sajnos). Azt szeretném elérni, hogy legyen legalább két új kitűzőm az Armorama fórumon. Egyik a Chaffee, a másik még kérdőjeles, vagy egy új kampány, vagy pedig a Panzerjägert nevezem be az "Unfinished business 2018" kampányba, majd még meglátom, hogy leszek idővel eleresztve. De van még néhány fiókban lapuló, befejezetlen darab, elsősorban a Leopard 2A4... szóval nehéz volt válogatni, mi legyen az idei cél. Végül az alábbiakat tűztem ki:
1. Chaffee befejezése időben (+1 kitűző)
2. Panzerjäger I befejezése (esetleg kampányban, akkor +1 kitűző) + egy kis sivatagi vignette egy-két figurával, hogy végre már a dioráma készítés felé is tegyek egy óvatos lépést
3. Leopard 2A4 befejezése
4. Tetszés szerinti Armorama kampány befejezéssel együtt (+1 kitűző)
Aztán, ha még mindig maradt szabad kapacitásom, akkor lehet válogatni az alábbiakból:
- Marder III befejezés
- Gaz AAA befejezés
- Jagdpanzer IV diorámához Kettenkrad + figurák + maga a dioráma
- M106 befejezése
- Stuart dioráma (Makin-atoll) elkészítése
Bőven több, mint amivel akár csak 2020 végéig is végezni tudnék, azt hiszem...

This year I don't plan anything too ambitious. In a few words: 2 more ribbons on Armorama forums. One of the will be the Chaffee and the other is a questionmark yet (maybe the Panzerjäger in the "Unfinished Business" campaign). But still has some treasure in the depth of the drawer - I hope that some of them could be finished this year. So, the goals in bulletpoints:
1. Finishing the Chaffee (+1 ribbon)
2. Finishing the Panzerjäger with a small vignette (maybe +1 ribbon)
3. Finishing the Leopard 2A4
4. Any of the 2019 Armorama campaigns (+1 ribbon)
And if I still have some spare time, I'll do the following pending projects:
- Marder III 
- Gaz AAA
- Jadgpanzer IV dio with Kettenkrad + figures + buildings
- M106 mortar carrier
- Stuart diorama (Makin-atoll)
A lot more than I will be able to do until the end of 2020, I'm afraid :)

Chaffee start

I have started the Chaffee by Bronco. Amazing details but surprisingly a lot mould seams to clean. The suspensions are workable if you are careful enough with the glue. And if you understand the manual, not like me. The torsion bars have to be glued ONLY at their ends. I glued them all long. Bad luck. That will srew the position of the wheels but I will handle that somehow...

Grey matter

A november utolsó napjait átjáró szomorúság - naná, hogy nem sikerült célba jutnom a NaNoWriMo cselendzsben - csak úgy volt enyhíthető, hogy maketteztem egy kicsit. Lefújtam a Panzerjägert szürkére, nem moduláltam, csak a klasszik panelközepét-világosítós módszert alkalmaztam. Következő lépésekben a monoton hatást világos szürke kiemelésekkel akarom megtörni, hogy aztán az egészet össze-vissza porozzam, mert a sivatag állítólag igen poros hely, fényképek tanúsága szerint legalábbis.

As I failed to complete the NaNoWriMo challenge I felt deeeeeep sadness. That could be healed only with some modelling. That is why I've painted the PzJ with AmmoMIG grey shades - no modulation just the old-school panel lighting. Now I'll highlight some stuff with light greys to break the monotonous look and then I cover everything with desert sand dust, according to reference photos. :)

Pause in November

A november a makettezés helyett egy másik hobbiról szól, ezért is még két hétig biztosan nem fogok haladni semmivel. Belevágtam az egy hónapos kihívásba, 50.000 szó regényvázlat egy hónap alatt, november 30. éjfélig. Kis lemaradással, de azért változatlan lelkesedéssel küzdök, mint az egyszeri malac a jégen...

I'm doing the NaNoWriMo currently so there will be nothing publishd (and modelled) in the next half of the month. It is a tough challenge but I'm only little behind the goal so I have chance to finish the 50 thousand words by 30th November.

Pre-primer pictures

Hosszú vajúdás után végre összeraktam a járművet. Már csak annyi hibádzik, hogy ha a festéssel készen vagyok, akkor a rádió drótozását be kell fejeznem, azt is lefesteni, és összeragasztani a tornyot, a löveget és a jármű testet. De egyelőre örvendezzünk annak, hogy az építés 99%-ban készen van, jöhet a festés. Az apróságok, amiket ebben a posztban változtatásként célul tűztem ki magam elé, mind sikeresen megoldásra kerültek.

It was a long time to build it but the vehicle is 99% ready. The only remaining build task is to apply the wiring to the radio after finishing the general paint session. Following that I will glue the upper and lower hull together with the gun. I am pleased as I successfully applied all the changes what I set as a goal in this post to replicate the No. 35 vehicle as truly as possible...

Some final touches and it will be ready... I hope to finish it in a week and then painting follows.
